Archbishop nips out for a curry

-

The Archbishop of Canterbury is a huge fan of Indian food, City Life can exclusively reveal. Wearing his dog collar and cross, the Most Rev Justin Welby visited the Kashmir restaurant in Palace Street, which sits in sight of the Cathedral Diners in Canterbury’s oldest curry house on a chilly Friday night looked on as the primate ordered himself a take away meal. While waiting, he chatted to other customers and posed for pictures. Dave Reynolds, 41, was eating in the restaurant when he spotted Mr Welby. He said: “I saw this bloke in religious garb and realised who it was straight away. Some of the others didn’t believe me, because they didn’t recognise him. “But it wasn’t beyond the realm of possibility given that the restaurant is near the Cathedral. I had a quick chat with him and he was pleasant.” Mr Welby had ordered a heavenly chicken dopiaza, rice and naan bread.

This week’s trophy for asinine secondary school leadership goes to Barton Court, the co-ed grammar in Longport. Faced with questions about why it showed a gory Spanish film featuring a scene in which a man’s face is caved in with the base of a wine bottle to kids as young as 14, the school opted for the mute approach. This paper offered it the chance to explain itself. Nah, that would be far too sensible, apparently. So it did and said nothing. 0/10.

Fact of the day: Earlier this month the Gillingham and District Fuchsia and Pelargonium Society held a lecture on the history of walking sticks. It cost a quid to get in.

It’s been bloody freezing in Canterbury of late. So let’s not hear any more of this rubbish about the warming of the globe. It’s global colding more like, yeah.
