Some of the country’s top comedians are lined up to come to the Gulbenkian in Canterbury over the next month.

First is award-winning funnyman and Celebrity Mastermind contender Gary Delaney, who is at the university venue on Sunday.

His show, There’s Something About Gary, will showcase his punchy, short-joke writing skills.

Tickets cost £14 and the show is only suitable for over-16s.

Musical comedian Earl Okin is returning to his roots at the University of Kent, where he was one of the first cohort of 500 students in 1965 and studied for a degree in philosophy.

Gary Delaney is at the Gulbenkian on Sunday Earl, who is there on Thursday, February 2, has recorded at Abbey Road and toured with Paul Mccartney. Tickets cost £12. Carrying the flag for female comedians will be Lucy Porter, who is now a familiar face on TV panel shows. In her new stand-up show, Consequenc­es, she tackles a variety of issues, including censorship, generation­al conflict, theologica­l ethics, homebrewin­g, quizzing, Britpop and falconry. Tickets cost £14. Fresh from appearance­s on Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central, Stuart Goldsmith will be at the theatre on Friday, February 10, with an hour of funny chat, including his experience­s of becoming a parent. Tickets cost £10. Multiaward winner Mark Thomas brings his combative style of politcally-edged comedy in a new show called Red Shed on Friday, February 17.

Part theatre, stand-up, journalism and activism, he tells the story of the battle for hope and the survival of a community in a small wooden shed.

It is the last in his award-winning trilogy of shows which started with Bravo Figaro and Cuckooed. Tickets cost £16.

The Marlowe Theatre

Mark Watson is at the Marlowe on February 17 in Canterbury is holding its latest comedy night at the venue on Friday, February 17. Headlining the bill at Live at the Marlowe will be Edinburgh Festival and Time Out Critics’ Choice awardwinne­r Mark Watson. One of the most popular comedians to emerge on the circuit in years, his shows include BBC Radio 4’s Mark Watson Makes The World Substantia­lly Better and Mark Watson Talks A Bit About Life. He is also a regular guest on television shows. Joining him will be multi-award-winning stand-up Simon Munnery, and Live At The Apollo star Tom Allen. Another comedian is to be announced.
