LORDSWOOD 29 FAVERSHAM 0:

-

A brave performance from Faversham counted for nothing as they came up short in a 29-0 defeat against streetwise Lordswood in Shepherd Neame Kent 2 League on Saturday. The Castaways again found their attacking play lacking as they failed to score despite holding a strong territorial position for large parts of the game. Defensive frailties and illdiscipline further compounded their misery with decisions going against them, leaving the visitors to return home with nothing to show for their efforts. A promising opening break-out raised Faversham’s hopes of securing their first victory on the road this season, catching the hosts off-guard to drive Lordswood close to their line. Having worked deep into the 22, the Castaways remained there for most of the first half and a familiar pattern emerged as Faversham were unable to break through the defence and despite promising positions being given to them, the Faversham line-out failed again and again. The frustration of failing to score was further heightened when Lordswood brushed aside weak tackling to travel the length of the pitch and score twice in quick succession. Starting the second-half 10-0 down, Faversham needed to keep patient and build on their earlier strong position. Jack Meadows led the way with direct running keeping the opposition on the back foot. However, whatever Faversham threw at the opposition line was countered by savvy disruption at the breakdown. Faversham responded crudely to perceived ill-discipline and a penalty try was awarded against them for retaliation. As frustrations grew so did the penalty count and Faversham were unable to build any kind of play throughout the second-half. Lordswood further capitalised on Faversham’s misfortune, kicking on loose ball and winning the foot race to score two further tries. Faversham next play at home to Askean on February 11.
