Monument tame lions to reach county quarter-finals

Monument PFC are through to the quarter-finals of the Kent Premier Cup after winning 3-2 away to Medway Lions in the fourth round. The Herne Bay and Whitstable League side now host holders Quested – winners for the past three seasons – on February 12. Last year’s beaten finalists, Rising Sun are still waiting to stage their fourth round tie away to Dover Elms Vale. The sides will try again this weekend. Dan Tanner hit a hat-trick as 10-man Littlebour­ne came from 4-2 down to beat Premier Division rivals Tankerton Royals in a Challenge Cup second round tie which produced nine goals. Mike Tritton and Louis Brister also scored for the Bourne who triumphed 5-4 despite having Matt Martin sent off. Royals replied through Joe Bill, Joe Walker, Stephen Irvine and Lewis Heard. An extra-time strike earned Jadon Blues a 3-2 success over Chartham in their Fletcher Cup first round tie. Ollie Stevens, Dan Lawrence and Steven Crouch scored for Blues with James Klosek and Sam Potter replying for Chartham. Spartans also went through, beating Waterfront 3-1 thanks for goals from Chevan Xavier, Durim, Brata and Nic Smith. George Wicks netted for Waterfront. Karl Williams struck twice to help Crusaders to 5-3 victory at Chilham in the first round of the President’s Cup. Scott Crane, Lewis Godden and Ashley Stevens were the other scorers, with Mike Holness, Ben Walsh and an own goal making up Chilham’s tally. The day’s biggest scorers were Bay Athletic, who ran out 10-1 winners over Hampton, led by Silviu Chifulescu’s treble. Sam Harlow and Aaron Fuller claimed doubles. Blean Sunday pipped Woodmans Hall 3-2 after extra time while Monument Reserves became the first team through from round two as they beat Wingham by the same score. Callum Alexander (2) and Sam Bubb scored for Monument with Connor Weatherall and Scott Curtis on target for Wingham. It needed penalties to separate City Lions and Faversham United in their Roger Cork Memorial Cup first round encounter. The Lions went through 3-0 on spot kicks after normal time and extra time had ended with the teams deadlocked at 3-3. John Blatchford, Aaron Cowell and Tom Shepherd (penalty) scored for City. Oare eased past Canterbury Toon 4-0 with goals from Olly Jones, Adam Cashford, Jack Jepson and Matty O’hara. Kushtrim Nuredini’s hat-trick was the heart of Chislet’s 4-2 second round win over Monument PFC A. Barnaby Loader was the other scorer, with Luke Clarke and Rob Murphy responding for Monument. One game took place in Division 2 with leaders Faversham Strike Force moving five points clear after beating Littlebour­ne Reserves 2-1. Mahmoud Al-sadi and Tom Solomon netted for the leaders with Alex Cooper netting for Bourne.
