Leaders back in the groove
Table tennis
After losing for the first time last week, Premier Division leaders Iron Room A got their Canterbury and District Table Tennis Association campaign back on track with a 7-2 home win against Hoath C.
Kevin Powell was undefeated on the night for Iron Room, while Hoath’s Mike Howard had superb wins over Phil Morford and Russell Bates and only narrowly lost out in a five-leg thriller to Powell, with one leg being decided 23-21.
Second-placed Hoath A won 6-3 away to Heron B but still dropped a further point on the leaders.
Ian Mileham remained unbeaten and was well supported by Andy Roberts (two wins) and Simon Rudland (one).
Chestfield Warriors 1 were forced to concede three of the points against Heron A for whom David Emery, Dianne Pearce and Roger Pingram recorded wins in a 7-2 success.
Paul Waumsley won the Warriors’ two points, coming out top in two five-leg encounters against Pearce and Pingram.
An 8-1 home win over Iron Room B kept Chestfield Warriors 3 at the top of Division 1, ahead of Faversham B on total legs won.
Ian Blogg (3) and Adam Dyer (3), plus two wins by Dirk Froebrich ensured the victory.

Travelling to runaway Division 2 leaders Blean A with only two players probably wasn’t the best game plan, as Chestfield Warriors 6 found out to their cost. They lost 9-0 with the three conceded points being added to wins from Paul Simmonds, Tom Kwok and Crystal Tseng.
Intense rivalry came to the fore in a club derby between Herne Bay F and Herne Bay G, with Bay F just edging a Canterbury 4, Rochester 0 Beckenham 1, Sevenoaks 0 Whitstable 2, Sheppey 1 AFC Croydon 3. Graham Waters (2) won the decisive singles after the G team had done well to come from 4-1 down to level.
Chestfield Warriors 5 overcame Faversham C 7-2 to move up to third.
Simon Howe led the way with three victories.
With three clean wins, James Ball led Herne Bay J to an 8-1 victory over club-mates, Herne Bay K who are still seeking their first win of the season in Division 3. William Hu addd three more and Mick Barwick two.
Leaders, Chestfield Warriors 12 emphasised their domination with a 9-0 whitewash over Chestfield Warriors 9 in a derby which extends their lead to 21 points.
Chestfield Warriors 13 went third in Division 4 with a 5-0 whitewash over club-mates, Chestfield Warriors 16, who are still without a win.
