Two Canterbury City teams were in action in the February round of the Kent Disability Football League tournament. The A team played out a hard-fought goalless draw with Milton & Fulston Spiders before going down 1-0 to Charlton. City went close to an equaliser from a Josh Russell free-kick but could not find a leveller. Maidstone were City’s third opponents of the day but Canterbury began slowly and a much-improved Maidstone went 2-0 ahead and there was no further score as Nathan Russell fired against the woodwork. In the last game, City faced Folkestone and again fell 2-0 down due to some defensive lapses and they were unable to battle back. City: Chris Wright, Chris Taylor, Liam Wickham, Matt Roberts, Kieron Edwards, Nathan Russell, Josh Russell. During the winter break, City’s B team lost Tiffany Walsh, who is moving away from the area, and Matthew Biggs to injury although they added David Martyn to the squad after he impressed in training. In their opening game against Charlton, City attacked from the off with a brace of goals from Cameron Lemare and Martyn’s excellent debut the highights. Bromley Green were City’s next opponents and they picked up where they left off with more attacking football and Lemare and Martyn hitting the back of the net. Paul Bowman kept the defence solid, despite playing with an injury and Bromley did not muster a shot on his brother Mark’s goal. City faced a strong Milton & Fulston Zebras side in game three but Martyn, Lemare and Jason Linkin combined well and Lemare and Martyn beat the keeper to put City 2-0 up. Zebras never let their heads drop and kept Mark Bowman in the City goal active and despite some excellent saves, he could not prevent them pulling back a consolation. Swanscombe Tigers were the final opponents and Mark Bowman saved a penalty before Linkin netted his first goal of the season with a powerful strike. Hunnisett beat the keeper with the last kick of the match only to hit the upright. The maximum 12 points saw City climb from third to top their group, four points ahead of Milton & Fulston. City: Mark Bowman, Paul Bowman, David Martyn, Jason Linken, Joe Hunisett, Cameron Lemare.
