Curtis sets the standard as Coach win again

A stunning 100% from Richard Curtis steered Coach & Horses A to a 15-10 win over Two Brewers Tornadoes who went bottom of the Whitstable & District League on Thursday night.

The Tornadoes were 10-9 up with Richard Brown hitting a 180 but Stu Rule and Matt Davis both won four to keep up the Coach’s winning start to the season.

Monument B are still top, beating rivals Monument A 15-10. Tom Hadler and Pete Gallagher both won four and Dan Bergin hit a 180, while Nigel Boeg won four for the A team, including a 100 checkout.

Jaqui Daniels also chippedin with a 180.

Two Brewers Q returned to winning ways with a 15-10 success over Coach & Horses B.

Nick Axford, Dave Cambourn and Ant Warren all won four for the Q with Warren also hitting a 180.

Tim Crocombe hit a consolatio­n 180 for the Coach B.

British Legion Wanderers, after a disastrous start to the season, are now up to fifth with a 14-11 win against Labour Club.

Ian Ball winning four for the Wanderers and Robbie Luton all five for the Labour Club.

British Legion B are off the foot of the table with a 17-8 win against Two Brewers Anglers.

With the first game being one for the endurance record, the Legion recovered with Paul Abbott and Tim Higgs winning four and Bill Emptage doing the same for the Anglers The top game in the Herne Bay & District Winter Darts League saw last season’s top two meet.

Last season’s runners-up Hampton Inn hosted reigning champions the Divers Arms and it was the Divers who started the brightest, racing into a 4-1 lead.

Hampton bounced back to level through Clive Johnson, Paul Dawkins and Steve Moys before Dan Parker put them 5-4 up.

However, the Divers levelled through Jason Adby and in the decisive last singles game, Divers’ Chris Howard beat Hampton’s Stacey Dawkins to secure a hard-fought 6-5 away victory for the Divers Arms, for whom Peter Gallacher checked out on 130, while for the hosts, Paul Dawkins checked-out on 113 and Moys hit a 180.

The Angling Club A made it two wins from two with a 6-5 win at the Tally Ho, to go second.

The Tally had taken a 1-0 lead but the Anglers rallied to take a 4-2 lead.

Laurence Parker pulled one back for the Tally with a 122 check-out, only to see Mike Brett make it 5-3.

The Tally responded with Paul Betts, helped by a 180, and Jason Cork making it 5-5 but Anglers skipper Gary Keeley beat Paul Bennett to secure a 6-5 win.

The Smugglers Inn registered their first points with a 7-4 away win over Whitstable Cricket Club.

Highlights of the match saw maximums from Smugglers John Hughes’ and Cricketers’ trio, Jordan Dadd, Keith Ralph and Richard Stevens, while Dadd checked-out on 113 and Smugglers duo Mick Morgan and Sean Purcell checked-out on 110 and 108 respective­ly.

In Division 1, Chislet Colliery Club continued their charge towards promotion with an 8-3 home win over the Druids Head, for whom skipper Carl Wright hit a 180.

The East Station Snooker Club took advantage of second-placed Rising Sun not being in action to go second with an 8-3 win over the Angling Club B.

The two teams still searching for their first win of the season met and it was the Catholic Club who came away with an 8-3 away against the Heron.
