Hoath A seize chance to pile on pressure

With Premier Division leaders Iron Room A not playing, Hoath A seized the chance to reduce the gap at the top to four points, with a 9-0 whitewash of Heron A. Ian Mileham set the tone with three clean wins and team-mates John Ferguson (3) and Simon Rudland (3) were also unbeaten. Undeterred by being one short, Hoath B enjoyed a 6-3 home win over Faversham A, whose only three points came from the games conceded by Hoath. Simon Hillier and David Jeavons instigated the Hoath win with three wins each over Faversham’s Matthew Hudson, Harry Law and Mark Waters. A hat-trick of victories within a week was recorded by Hoath Table Tennis Club when Hoath C overcame the challenge of visitors Heron B, to card a 6-3 home win. With three wins, Mike Howard led the Hoath team to the victory, supported by two from Ben Greenwood and Clive Hollingsbe­e contributi­ng their sixth point. Matthew Emery had two good wins for Heron, including a five-leg battle against Greenwood. Ron Rowley, Peter Roberts and Andy Cannon for Herne Bay A eased to a 9-0 whitewash over lowly club-mates, Herne Bay B, to maintain third place. A 5-4 away win for Division 1 leaders Chestfield Warriors 3 against Herne Bay C keeps them at the top of the league with a five-point gap. With the score at 4-4 after eight games, Dirk Froebrich (2) won the last game to give the Warriors the match result. Dirk was supported by two wins for Ian Blogg and one by Adam Dyer but again, Bay’s Bob Edwards was unbeaten. Rooted at the bottom of division 1, Choughs B were subjected to a 7-2 away defeat when they travelled to Iron Room B, the win moving the Iron Room up three places to fifth . Kevin Beasley, with three clean wins, led the way to victory, with Mike Holiday and Tracey Deeley both adding two wins. An undefeated Roy Coles was on hand to give Choughs A, who are bottom-but-one in the league, a welcome 6-3 home win over their guests, Iron Room C. With a further two wins for Cliff Ball and a win for Heather Robinson, Choughs earned the match-winning six points. An unbeaten Barry Cook (3) plus two wins for David Block, helped Whitstable Natives B secure a 5-4 away Division 2 win over their hosts, Chestfield Warriors 7. Danny Reardon and Simon Chambers provided the only resistance offered by Herne Bay G when they welcomed the unbeaten, runaway leaders Blean A whose 7-2 win gives them a 44-point lead at the top. Tom Kwok had three clean wins for Blean and three further wins for Paul Simmonds plus a win by Rob Easton gave Blean a comfortabl­e seven points. A close encounter between Blean B and Faversham C ended with a welcome 5-4 away win for Faversham who were grateful for the contributi­on of an unbeaten Mark Thomas (3) and two good wins for Colin Blythe. The derby between Herne Bay E and Herne Bay F ended with a fine win for Bay F over their second-placed club rivals. Graham Waters and Jim Burns both had two wins each for the victors, with their fifth point coming from Graeme Sopp. A 5-4 win just gave second-placed Blean C the edge over Division 3 rivals Chestfield Warriors 11 for whom Stuart Murray-williams earned the Warriors three points to maintain his 100% record. With the match at 4-4, Laurie Newman won his second game to clinch the result in Blean’s favour. Kenny Mccaig had two clean wins for Chestfield Warriors 17 against bottom of the league, Chestfield Warriors 16 who are still looking for their first league win. Kenny’s team-mate Owen Whatley chipped in with two more wins and took the doubles for a 5-0 win.
