Sun storm to another title

Rising Sun clinched their 10th Premier Division title in 11 years when they thrashed would-be challenger­s Monument PFC 9-0 at Canterbury’s St Edmund’s School.

The result – against the last side to deny them the title, in 2013-14 – gave the defending Herne Bay and Whitstable Sunday League champions the championsh­ip with four games still to play.

With nine wins and draw, Riser boast a seven-point lead over Jadon Blues, who have just two matches left.

The defeat also ended any aspiration­s Monument might have had of regaining the crown.

Hat-trick hero Simon Brown led the way for Riser, with Stacy Davis scoring twice.

The others came from Sam Staunton, Sam Hallett, Ben Brown and Joe Kennett.

Jadon kept up their pursuit of the runners-up spot by beating Littlebour­ne 5-0. Dan Lawrence scored two, with Rob Lawrence, Brad Weston and Ben Lawrence also on target.

Wingham moved to within a point of Division leaders Monument PFC Reserves after a 3-2 win over promotion rivals The Elephant.

Declan Wale, Sam Callender and Luke Foster scored for Wingham, who have played one more game than the leaders.

The meeting between the division’s bottom two produced a 2-1 win for Northgate Rangers over Woodman’s Hall, moving them six points clear of the basement club. Lewis Pout scored Woodman’s consolatio­n. Blean and Hamptson shared a 2-2 draw.

St Stephen’s ran out 4-1 winners over Faversham United in Division 2. Martin West, Daniel Wells, James Thatcher and Jonny Pilcer netted for the Saints with Sam Ryan getting United’s reply.

Oare and Littlebour­ne Reserves played out a 2-2 draw with John Bundock grabbing both for the Faversham side.

Bourne’s replies came from Dan Sillitoe and Nathan Perry.

Second division City Lions sprang a surprise in the Challenge Cup, second round, beating Division 1 Chilham Sunday 3-2. Will Watton (2) and Wes Miller were their scorers while Andy Hayward claimed both for the losers.

Premier Division Chartham went through 4-0 against second division Chislet with Danny Illsley, James Klosek, Adam Garland and Jack Payne their scorers.

Ritchie Martin and Nic Smith scored for Spartans as they beat Waterfront 2-0 in the Faversham Charity Cup, Senior Section and they are joined in the semi-finals by Tankerton Royals.

They won 3-0 at Crusaders with goals from Joe Walker, Lewis Heard and Joe Martin. Faversham Strike Force eased past Whitstable OB 8-1 in the junior section, led by doubles for Ali Adam and Adrian Jolly.

Also through are Heron who beat Monument PFC A 6-4. Mon’s scorers were Joe Venes, Edward Bowie (2) and Rob Murphy.
