YOUTH: TEAMS OUT IN FORCE

-

Three mixed teams of under-8s from Canterbury JHC took on opposition from Folkestone in a quality round-robin tournament played indoors due to the bad weather on the morning.

The under-10 girls played Tunbridge Wells, Marden and Herne Bay in Canterbury and Sevenoaks, BOEHC, Ashford and Burnt Ash in Blackheath on Sunday.

The under-10 boys were out in force at three different clubs.

The Canterbury As were playing some under-12 matches at Sevenoaks – along with the boys’ under-12 B team – while the Bs played under-10 triangulars at Marden and the Cs did likewise at Tunbridge Wells.

There was some great hockey and despite the weather, the boys enjoyed success.

The As played four matches, winning three and drawing the other.

The Bs played four matches against two teams, winning two, losing one and drawing the other, while the Cs won one, lost one and drew one.

The under-12 girls made light of travel chaos to play games at Sevenoaks and Gillingham. At Gillingham, both teams played three games and both finished second in their group at the end of the tournament.

The A team won two and lost one, while the Bs won one, drew one and lost one.

The B team highlights were a hat-trick from Jessica Mccully in the second-game win and a superb defensive performance from Yola Brough, Loren Goode and Bronwyn Reynolds in their final game, a 1-1 draw with Emma Blackmore on target.

At Sevenoaks, Hannah Sumner and Olivia Ryeland both had an excellent day as two sides played some great hockey and worked hard, coming away with four wins, one draw and a loss to a strong Sevenoaks side.

The under-14 boys came out on top in a must-win game against Surbiton.

Surbiton took an early lead which stirred the Canterbury boys into action and a short corner routine saw Jamie Tritton equalise and then a good finish from Max Messenger gave Canterbury the lead.

The second half saw Canterbury apply more pressure bringing the best out of the Surbiton keeper before Calum Brown-lea sealed a 3-1 victory.
