Lilywhites suffer setback

Ryman League

Whyteleafe scored either side of half-time to condemn Faversham to a 2-1 defeat in Surrey in Division 1 South, on Tuesday night.

Seeking a win to move within four points of the play-off places, Town fell behind to a Daniel Ajakaiye strike eight minutes before half-time.

Shawn Clement-peter doubled the advantage eight minutes after the break and although Jamie Maxted pulled one back with 10 minutes remaining, Town could not find a leveller.

On Saturday, the Lilywhites beat battling Molesey 1- 0 at the Shepherd Neame Stadium, thanks in large part to heroics from Will Godmon.

The keeper thwarted Joe Nwoko with a block inside two minutes and saved from Donald Sobdivale five minutes later.

At the other end, Renford Tenyue’s low shot was kept out by the keeper at the second attempt before Luke Harvey picked the ball up with his back to goal on the right, flicked past his marker and drove forward before curling into the far corner with the outside of his boot for a superb opener on 16 minutes.

Sam Bewick and Josh Stanford fired wide, while Sobdivale’s effort went over at the other end and Harvey was denied a second by the keeper.

After the break, Molesey improved and Sam Charles and Sobdivale were superbly denied by Godmon, while Ashley Lodge curled inches wide.

Carl Rook headed at the keeper and Harvey headed over but Godmon had to deny Sobdivale twice more as Faversham held on to win.

After three straight draws, Herne Bay eased to a 6- 0 win against East Grinstead at Winch’s Field on Saturday to make it six games without defeat.

Mark Lovell opened the scoring on 15 minutes when he fired in the rebound after Ian Pulman had jinked his way into the box before seeing a low shot parried by Wasps keeper Chris Haigh.

Pulman made it 2- 0 five minutes before the break with the simplest of goals after the keeper had rushed out to clear a long kick forward, only to miss the ball, leaving Pulman with an open goal.

Lovell added a third from the penalty spot four minutes after the break.

Pulman scored a fourth on the hour, firing into the top corner from 12 yards via the inside of the post after good work down the left and a pass into the box by James Turner.

Danny Williams made it five 10 minutes later when Lovell’s 20-yard blast came back off the bar, with Williams firing the rebound back past Haigh.

Youngster Izzy Adebayo got the final goal 11 minutes from time when he pounced to volley home the rebound after Haigh could only parry a Lovell header.
