Market A still looking the team to beat

Faversham League leaders Market A edged a 5-4 win at Castle B as the season reaches its midway point. The Market got the better of the doubles taking a 2-1 lead but the Castle levelled through Kyle Boakes. But the Market then stepped up to take an unassailab­le 5-2 lead through Chris Dadd, Darren Butcher and Jordan Dadd, although Steve Clemmence and Wayne Thomas closed the gap before the end. Highlights of the match saw Boakes hit a 180 while Darren Butcher checked-out on 118. The Railway held on to second with a 5-4 home win over Brents A. The Railway took a 2-1 lead out of the doubles but Brents hit back through George Harris and Kenny Boswell. The Railway bounced back to take a 4-3 lead thanks to Justin Dane and Mark Bryant but the Brent’s Richard Boswell made it 4-4 only for Ant Halls to grab a 5-4 win for the hosts in the final game. Three Horseshoes B moved up to third with an 8-1 home victory over short-handed Three Tuns B. Chris Bedo, Rob Forber, Rob Jones, Neil Cole and Pete Jones all won their singles with Jones hitting a 106 check-out. Market B came from behind to win 5-4 at home to the Castle A who led 2-1 after the doubles. Paul Jones, Craig Preston and Richie Pennel turned it around before Castle fought back to make it 4-4 through Lewis Gore and Steve Wright – helped by a maximum – although Market skipper Nobby Gore ensured the win for his team in the final match. Three Horseshoes A travelled to Three Tuns A but were edged out 5-4. The Tuns took a 2-1 lead out of the doubles and Benn Swinfield made it 3-1. Shoes pulled one back but Max Claughton and Rory Gatward sealed the win. Brents B hosted the Football Club and the match was allsquare at 3-3 before Brents took the last three singles through Matt Elliott, Lennie Boorman and Glenn Lowther, although the Football Club’s Mick Lee hit a 180. The Bull Inn derby saw the A team go 3-1 up and despite wins from B’s Mike Cooper and Jim Wynn, who took out 116, Ben Felts and Brian Gossling ensured victory.
