Faversham SC’S Roy Lewis is celebrating winning the Swale Volunteering Contribution to Sport Award at the annual event held at the Barnyard near Sittingbourne.
Roy started volunteering in 1977 at Sittingbourne & Milton Swimming Club, moving from the old Sittingbourne Baths to the Swallows Leisure Centre and has continued to teach swimmers ever since.
He would often coach all six of the lanes in squad and even taught current Faversham volunteers Clare Stemp and Jane Scott while they were young members there.
Roy subsequently moved to Faversham Swimming Club and has been a valued member of the teaching and coaching team for many years.
He still continues to show dedication to swimming by volunteering on Wednesday nights and early Saturday mornings, teaching all of the different levels from ‘Learn to Swim’ right up to the top competitive squad members.
He always shows patience and enjoys sharing his knowledge of swimming with all the Faversham SC children and is a strong asset to the club.
This award is well deserved and the club hope Roy will continue to volunteer for many years to come.
