Kentish Gazette Canterbury & District
Herne Bay Photographic Club
Last week members enjoyed an excellent lecture by Paul Adams. Titled, Printing to Distinction Part 1, Paul provided an interesting journey through his own photographic history. He had developed the prints himself and the majority were in black and white or with a tint added. Paul did not hold back when things had gone wrong or he had made a poor decision on the outcome; he often showed members a number of different versions of an image, showing how he had improved it. To round off the evening, Paul showed members the images he had used for his DPAGB distinction, which he gained on his second try. He compared the first round with the second, explaining how he had altered and re-entered some images and gained a much better score. Members also engaged in a battle this week with Parkwood Camera Club, in Medway, judged by Richard Walton. The subject for the competition was Vintage, and Herne Bay excelled, winning 331 points to Parkwood’s 323. The club has one more external battle to go, against Faversham and District Camera Club at the end of March, so members are hoping to make it three in a row. Looking further ahead, the club is running a battle of its own – Ladies versus Gents at the beginning of April. So on March 21, both teams will be choosing their entries. On March 28, members will be taking part in a league print competition, with the subject Black and White, which will be judged by Glyn Bareham. The club is always looking for new members and is open to anyone with an interest in photography. Whether you are young or not so young, just starting or an old hand; use print or digital; have a sophisticated camera, a compact, or a smartphone, go along. Meetings are on a Tuesday at the Beacon Church, Sea Street from 8pm-10pm (doors open at 7.45pm). All under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
