Concert will raise money for young Kelly

-

A concert is being held to raise money for a girl who needs lifesaving treatment.

Canterbury-based choir the Lemon Zingers will be performing with Swedish band Umea Pop & Rock on Saturday, April 1, at St Peter’s Methodist Church to collect cash for 16-year-old Kelly Turner.

The group specialise in harmony-rich pop, musical theatre and soul music and are run by professional singer Lemon Otter.

She has previously raised money for Kelly, who is suffering from a rare form of cancer and needs £1 million for immunotherapy treatment only available in New York.

Ms Otter heard about Kelly’s story on social media and said it touched her heart.

“I thought how awful it must be for her and her family to have to live with this,” she said.

“To hear Kelly has two years to live – I can’t imagine what that must feel like.

“The NHS won’t help, so if there’s a chance we have to do what we can regardless.”

Kelly has so far raised half of the £1 million target. “We have just got to keep going to make sure she’s going to have enough money,” Ms Otter said.

“If it’s successful it will give her another few years. We’re really hoping people will come to the concert.”

The evening will also include performances from Canterbury band Monday Music.

The concert will start at 7pm. Tickets on the door are £7 for adults and £5 for students and children. All proceeds will go to the Kelly Turner fund.
