Key competition night for county’s choirs
Some of the best amateur choirs in Kent will go head-tohead in a charity concert in the city next month.
The talented choristers will be performing Songs from the Shows at the Shirley Hall, showcasing the biggest hits from popular musicals in a fundraiser organised by the Rotary Club of Canterbury.
Taking part in Top Choir Kent will be the Elham Valley Voices, Monday Music, the Simon Langton Boys Grammar Chamber Choir, Just Voices, the Pharos Chamber Choir, and last year’s winners The Kentones.
The competition will be on Saturday, April 8, is in its seventh year, and promises an evening of entertainment for all, with hits from Les Miserables, Mary Poppins and Gilbert and Sullivan.
President of the Rotary Club of Canterbury, Martin Ward, said: “Traditionally, Top Choir Kent attracts the cream of amateur choirs and this year is no exception. The theme guarantees an entertaining evening to suit all musical tastes.”
Mr Ward says he is particularly excited to see the concert finale.
He said: “All the choirs will take to the stage at the end to sing a specially commissioned arrangement of Do You Hear the People Sing, from Les Miserables.
“It promises to be very special and it’s certainly an evening not to be missed.”
