Bay march on in style

Herne Bay

-

Herne Bay men’s 2nds took another step towards the Kent Open Premier B title with a 13-1 demolition of Tunbridge Wells 3rds on Saturday. Bay led 7-0 at the break and added six more after it with Paul Mcvey and Sam Thompson claiming four goals each, Aaron White netting two and Paul Duffy, Simon Newman-collins and Lee Gardener getting the others. Their superior goal difference means a win at Sevenoaks 4ths on Saturday would see Bay crowned champions and promoted. The 3rds are also a win from the title after they maintained their seven-point lead at the top of Division 1, with a game in hand, after a 4-1 win at BBHC 3rds. Kriss White scored two, man-of-the-match Harry Pout got another and Adam Foster completed the haul. Bay 4ths stay third in Division 4 after a 3-1 win against Sutton Valence 4ths. Bay wasted several chances before the break and it was the visitors who took the lead but Jay Newell levelled 10 minutes after the restart and Newell dispatched a penalty stroke to turn the game before Alfie Forbes squeezed in a late third. The 5ths were handed a 5-0 walkover by scheduled hosts Ashford 6ths in the same division and now just need to win at home to New Beccehamian 4ths on Saturday to seal the title. Bay Ladies produced an improved display against leaders Maidstone 2nds in Kent League Division 1 but went down 3-1 to make it six games without a win. Lisa Watson got the consolation for Bay, who remained third. The 2nds stayed 2nd in Division 4 despite scoring 21 goals without reply at New Beccehamian 3rds. Libby Fielder scored six, Gemma Cathcart five, Amber and Mary Potter three each and Lucy Barton and Amber Malley two each. The 3rds continue to lead the way in Kent Division 5 after a 1-1 draw at secondplaced Maidstone 4ths. Millie Mileham put Bay ahead before the break but the hosts rallied levelled from a short corner before wasting several chances to win it. Bay’s veterans progressed to the semi-finals of the Kent Cup with a 5-0 win over Old Williamsonians with goals from Lee Gardener (2), Aaron White, Simon Newman-collins and Paul Mcvey.
