YOUNGSTER MAX WINS FOUR GOLD MEDALS AS WELL AS SETTING TWO NEW CLUB RECORDS Swimming
Six of the best Faversham SC swimmers attended the Spring Regional Qualifier hosted by Thanet Swim and City of Canterbury Club at Kingsmead Leisure Centre, Canterbury on Saturday.
They battled against swimmers from Bexley, Black Lion, Canterbury, Herne Bay, Maidstone, Sheerness and Thanet coming home with 17 top-three places, eight club records and a host of personal best times between them.
Brilliant swims by Max Fordyce, 12, earned him gold medals in the 100m/ 200m breaststroke, 200m freestyle in a club record of 2.25.67 and the 200m individual medley in a club record 2.50.53.
His swims in the 100m and 200m freestyle also gained him Regional consideration times (RCT) and he continued his run of success by winning silver medals in the 50m fly (35.64 PB), 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle and completed his medal collection by gaining a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle in a new club record 1.09.43.
Nathan Williams, 14, was also on fine form, clocking a RCT and CR in Fisher ............ 34 Lordswood ..... 33 Beckenham ... 32 winning the 200m fly. He also won gold medals in the 100m breaststroke (1.22.36 PB) and 100m fly then snatched silver in the 100m freestyle with a bronze in the 50m freestyle.
The girls also achieved podium finishes with Bella Holt, 11, claiming a silver medal in the 100m freestyle (1.14.47 PB) and bronze in the 200m freestyle (2.36.58 PB) – both club records.
Olivia Hawkins took silver in the over-17 100m backstroke (1.07.72 PB/CR) and a bronze in the 50m backstroke.
Amy Coupe and Emily Holt also performed well, finishing in the top four during the competition with Holt, 15, gaining a club record in the 200m freestyle.
It has been a busy week for the City of Canterbury SC both at Kingsmead and in France.
Paul Webster led the way in the French Masters Winter Championships in Dunkerque.
The 75- year- old claimed an outstanding four medals in the men’s 75-79 age group, two golds in the 50m freestyle (36.3secs) and 100m freestyle (1.25:88) plus silver medals in the 100m backstroke (1.45:32) and 200m backstroke (4:02.31).
Meanwhile, back in Canterbury, on Saturday, 12 swimmers aged 12-23 competed in the City of Canterbury/ Thanet Spring Regional Qualifier.
Overall it was a good performance the Canterbury competitors completing 53 races and achieving 28 personal bests.
The stand out performances were from George Casey, 18, who achieved two Regional Qualifying times, Toby Lister, 18, who took five seconds off his 200 Individual Medley time to achieve a personal best of 2.22.29 and Angus Lister (15) who achieved PBS in both the 100m and 200m Freestyle.
Chloe Sands, 12, secured PBS in the 100m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke completing a successful meet. Lauren Benson, 15, swam well in the 100m and 200m butterfly to achieve two PBS.
The East Invicta Masters Championships and the Crawley Spring Open Gala take place this weekend.
