Early days yet for Ukip
Retired educator Jim Gascoyne, who stood for Ukip in 2015, says his party has made no decisions about its candidate.
“It’s far too early to know what’s going on,” he said. “Although, the election announcement is not a surprise. The government needs to do this because there are too many bad eggs in Westminster who will try and get in the way of our leaving the EU.”
The Boundary Commission has suggested that the number of parliamentary seats is reduced by 50 with the Faversham and Mid-kent constituency, currently held by Conservative Helen Whately, set to disappear.
June’s election, however, will take place according to the current constituencies.
