Faversham saw their hopes of finishing as Kent’s top side in Division 1 South hit by a late 2-1 loss in the Swale derby at Sittingbourne on Monday.

After having Josh Stanford forced off early on, Town looked to have gone ahead when Jamie Maxted bundled home a corner, only for his effort to be disallowed.

Former Town keeper Simon Overland denied Maxted before Faversham substitute Luke Gri f f iths vol leyed over.

The deadlock was broken on 33 minutes when Griffiths was fouled in the box allowing Sam Bewick to fire home at the second attempt after his initial spot-kick was parried by Overland.

Keeper Will Godmon denied Tom Carlse and Gil Carvalho hit the woodwork for the hosts before the break, while after it Overland held a Liam King free-kick.

Jono Richardson headed the equaliser just after the hour, a;though Luke Harvey missed a good chance and Carl Rook was superbly denied by Overland at the other end.

Kyron Lightfoot shot just over from 20 yards before Bourne stole the points in the dying seconds when Keanu Williams fired in after Godmon had turned aside an 18-yard volley, with Dan Carrington shown a second yellow card for his protests as Town finished with 10 men.

Town had overcome Guernsey 1-0 on Saturday but later saw their faint play-off hopes ended by Hastings’ point against Walton Casuals.

King saw a shot blocked by the keeper after a 70-yard clearance by Godmon bounced into the opposite area and Ryan Cooper dived to glance a Stanford corner over the bar soon after.

Craig Young fired over at the other end while just before the break, Bewick saw a shot cleared off the line and Maxted’s curling effort was tipped over by Leroi Riley.

The only goal arrived just after the hour when Renford Tenyue’s cross from the left was headed down by Carl Rook and laid off by Stanford for Bewick to score from 16 yards.

King wasted three good chances in the following five minutes and Stanford shot wide before the close.

Herne Bay allowed a two-goal lead to slip away in the final minutes of a derby draw at home to Ramsgate in Division 1 South on Monday.

Former Ramsgate captain Liam Quinn opened the scoring against his former club three minutes into the second half at Winch’s Field and it looked like Bay might end their five-game winless run.

Another former Southwood man, Billy Lewins, made it 2-0 inside the final 20 minutes but Jake Mackenzie halved the deficit 11 minutes from time to set up a grandstand finish.

Gary Sayer was sent off for the hosts in the dying seconds after a goalmouth handball which allowed Ramsgate’s Aaron Millbank to snatch a share of the points.

Bay had gone down 3-1 at South Park on Saturday. Kieran Lavery opened the scoring after 15 minutes but Bay’s Mark Lovell levelled from the penalty spot just after the half-hour, only for Lavery to get his second, also from a spot-kick, two minutes before the break.

After a quieter second half, Chris Smith added the third for the hosts in the dying seconds.
