There seems no letting up in the number of major restaurant chains arriving in Canterbury.

The newest diner, Bill’s Restaurant, is set to open its doors on Monday and fast-food chain Yo! Sushi will be moving into Sun Street in the coming months.

Adding to Canterbury’s growing culinary reputation, Bill’s was founded by former greengrocer Bill Collison.

The new outlet has been created in the building previously occupied by C&H which has now moved to St Margaret’s Street.

It will have 124 seats inside and 24 outside and will also sell packaged food and drinks, including jams, chutneys, coffee and teas, chocolate truffles, biscuits and confectionery bars.

Mr Collison said: “I am so pleased we are opening a Bill’s Restaurant in Canterbury.

“It’s a beautiful city and we’re excited to welcome visitors and locals to soak up our friendly atmosphere and tuck into our delicious seasonal fare.”

National chain Yo! Sushi, founded by original Dragon’s Den star Simon Woodroffe is set to move in close to the Cathedral but is yet to confirm which building will be used.

The company is advertising six jobs for the restaurant online.

It specialises in delivering fastfood sushi to customers using the Japanese-style conveyor belt method.

In each restaurant various sushi dishes and other Japanese cooked foods are prepared in an open kitchen in view of customers and then set on the belt.

The belt carries food around the restaurant in rotation, allowing diners to pick any dish from the belt.

Yo! Sushi first opened in Soho, London, in 1997.
