Boys maintain unbeaten start

Herne Bay Tennis Club’s Aegon under-16 boys team continued their fantastic start to the league by convincing­ly beating Broadstair­s and Chilham to make it three wins with two more matches to come.

Robbie Benka and Josh Deverson were never really being troubled by the Broadstair­s team, conceding a total of only three games, while Benka and 12- year- old debutant Sam Hodge then saw off Chilham, completing a 3-0 sweep.

The ladies 3rds had an excellent win at home to Bearsted 3rds in Division 6A of the Kent League.

Denise Parrett/anja Stileman beat both the visiting pairs in straight sets with the loss of only seven games while Diana High/ Helen Lipeat took a crucial set to ensure the match ended two rubbers each, Bay winning 5-4 in sets.

Peter Elsden/dani Miles and Ben Keighley/sue Toye managed a convincing win by 7 sets to 1 as the mixed A team won their Dover & District League opener at home to Knoll A and then beat Hythe 5-3 a week later.

The ladies’ team of Caroline Packer/ Debbie Holden and Diana High/sarah Pout won by the same scoreat Hythe in their opening game while the men’s B team drew 4-4 with Sellindge through Gary Smith/ Dave Lawrence and Bryan Packham/ Jason Hollingswo­rth.
