Kentish Gazette Canterbury & District
Bringing carers together with stimulating sessions
Carers Week 2017 will take place from Monday, June 12, to Sunday, June 18.
The national campaign is brought to life by the individuals and organisations who organise activities and events, drawing attention to just how important caring is.
A carer is someone who without payment, provides help and support to a relative, friend or neighbour who would not manage without their help because of illness, disability or addiction.
When people need help with day-to-day living, they often turn to their family and friends.
Becoming a carer affects people from all cultures and of any age. Carers help with all sorts of things such as washing and dressing, getting out, shopping, medication, finances, form filling, laundry and cooking.
Local charity Carers’ Support – Canterbury, Dover & Thanet has organised a range of activities to bring carers together.
The friendly team will be at the information hub in Westwood Cross, next to Claire’s Accessories, from Monday, June 12, to Thursday, June 15, from 10am to 4pm.
The charity’s Let’s Talk event for carers at The Centre in Birchington will see a range of information stands from community organisations and workshops for carers.
There will also be a session in which they hope to stimulate conversations about how they can work together, for and with carers.
For further information about the charity, or to book for any of the activities, please telephone 01304 364637.
The charity can offer support with replacement care or transport to enable carers to attend any of the activities during Carers Week – please let them know in advance if you need help with this.
