Yiannis makes Euro impact

Yiannis Christodou­lou, of Canterbury Harriers and Adalta CC, recorded a top-10 finish in his age-group at the European Aquathlon Championsh­ips in Bratislava.

Christodou­lou came ninth in the 30-34 age-group in a time of 35min 36sec with a personal best swim, while his run time was the third fastest in his race.

Simon Jones from Canterbury came sixth in the 40- 44 age-group with a time of 35.29 and had the fastest running time in his race. Both will be taking part in the World Championsh­ips later this year.

At the London Vitality 10k, PBS were gained by Harriers’ Paul Elderton (40.05), Deborah Parris (47.29) and Kieran Jessup (52.46), while Tina Jones gained second vet 70 lady in 52.00.

Nicola Charlton was second lady in 42.23 in the Larkfield AC 10k, while at the Folkestone Coastal 10k, Gemma Jeffrey set a PB of 46.32.

At the Edinburgh Half Marathon, Fiona Craig gained a PB of 1: 56.01 and at the Harvel 5, Fiona Tester recorded a best time of 35.24.

Two of Invicta East Kent’s multievent athletes represente­d Kent schools against rivals from London and Middlesex at Lee Valley.

Douglas Noel, of St Edmund’s, took part in the pentathlon. He was second after the first event – the long jump – and held the position through the discus, hurdles, javelin and finally the 1,500m to finish with a total score of 2,816 points, just 100 behind winner Dominic Ogbechie who is on the England Athletic fast futures programme.

Issabelle Harding returned to multievent­ing after a terrific winter crosscount­ry season to claim bronze in the under-15 event.

After competing in the long jump, she set a PB of 12.2sec in the hurdles, threw a best of 7.80m in the shot, and then completed the high jump and 800m to finish with 2,547 points, close to winner Rebekah O’brian – the UK’S leading under-15 girls pentathlet­e.
