ROWING: NEW CREWS MAKE INSTANT IMPRESSION AT DOVER REGATTA

Eight new members raced for the first time when Herne Bay Amateur Rowing Club took part in the Dover Regatta on Sunday. Four of those were involved in the first event, the mixed J14 quad sculls. Will White, Bradley Perry-french, Lewis Perry-french and Adam Taylor won for Herne Bay while the crew of Guy Thomas, Poppy Webb, Heidi White and Megan Davies, coxed by James Dawkins, were second. Elisabeth Ling, Webb, White and Davies won the J16 girls’ race for Herne Bay and the new novice ladies’ four of Rosie-marie Hollywood, Stephanie Rondel, Webb and White chalked up another win. Jasmine Amos, Georgia Shelton, Ling and Liz Bryant were fourth in that race. In the Masters events, Stuart Webb, Darren White, John Cox and Liz Taylor won the over-50 race while Webb, White, Cox and Mark Davies were second in the over-40 race. Herne Bay came second in the J16 boys’ quad sculls race with debutant Tommy Jeffries the only change from the victorious J14 crew. Three ladies crews raced for Herne Bay in the junior fours race. Emily Noyes, Kaye Sullivan, Tracey Mcalpine, Natasha Tricks and cox Cox came second while Hollywood, Rondel, Webb and White plus cox Dawkins crossed the line third. Finishing eighth for Herne Bay were Amos, Scarlett Bates, Shelton, Ling and cox Adam Taylor. Bates and Liz Taylor were second in a competitiv­e double sculls race and Manuel Marques came third in the men’s novice sculls. In the men’s junior sculls, Herne Bay pair George Holness and club captain Luke Towner were third and sixth respective­ly.
