Setting sail for Naval career

A Canterbury teenager is preparing for a career at sea after completing the first stage of his Royal Navy training.

Trainee marine engineer Ross Wellard, 18, right, finished his 10-week induction after joining the service in April. The former Whitstable Community College pupil, who previously worked as a labourer, began his training at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall.

He said: “I joined the Royal Navy to influence others, while gaining qualifications and travelling the world with friends for life.”
