Canterbury bowler Peter Foster has won through to the National Finals.

The 24-year-old beat 20 other bowlers in his last year of the under-25 competitio­n and secured a place in this year’s National Finals at Leamington Spa.

Meanwhile, Canterbury won through to the third round of the Bernard Annand Shield by beating Birchingto­n 46-30. Rinks: Dave Rickard, Bryan Nicholson, Colin Strouts, Dave Todd won 30-14; Chris Dawson, Roger Blissett, John King, Malcolm Nicholson drew 16-16.

Despite sharing the rinks, Canterbury won against Cliftonvil­le by seven shots overall in the East Kent Mixed Triples League. Canterbury 113 Cliftonvil­le 104 Christiane De Weduwe, George Long, Dick Mortley lost 18-17; Bob Keen, Madelaine Mcconomy, Maj Lloyd lost 16-12; Liz Long, Roger Gowan, Dave Charlton won 24-14; Mervyn Gulvin, June Baker, Ian Burton lost 24-9; Sandra Swann, Dave Jenkins, Colin Goldsack won 27-7; Jill Jenkins, Dave Swann, Bernard Woodhams won 24-15.

Canterbury remain top of the Forest of Blean League after a 23-shot win over Herne Bay secured five points. Canterbury 110 Herne Bay 87 Chris Dawson, John King, Malcolm Nicholson lost 2118; Tom Nelson, Ian Burton, Steve Wells lost 17-12; Mervyn Gulvin, Dave Charlton, Jeff Vane won 29-11; Dave Swann, Roger Blissett, Alan Cornfoot lost 13-12; Jo Vandapeer, Mike Talbot, Tony Dobson won 16-13; Bryan Nicholson, Colin Strouts, Dave Todd won 23-12.

Canterbury suffered a sixshot defeat against Kearsney in the Dover League and picked up just three league points. Canterbury 69 Kearsney 75 Mike Hutchinson, Colin Goldsack. Dave Charlton lost 23-16; Brian Wheeler, Ian Smith, Brian Nicholson won 19-17; Mervyn Gulvin, Roger Gowan, Dick Mortley lost 17-16; Ian Mitchell, George Long, Dave Swann drew 18-18.

Canterbury overcame Sandwich by 38 shots after winning on four rinks. Canterbury ladies won just one rink as they went down by seven shots against Whitstable. Canterbury 92 Whitstable 99 Liz Long, Maddie Mcconomy, Bim Bishop lost 19-13; Maureen Aitkin, Sheila Holder, Heather Goldsack lost 18-12; Sandra Swann, Val Hughes, Marion Patmore lost 14-13; June Mitchell, Rowena Laming, Sue Mates lost 17-15; Sue Trott, Val Lundin, Christiann­e De Weduwe drew 16-16; Jill Jenkins, Barbara White, June Baker won 23-15. Bay won six of the seven rinks played against Ashburton Park and by 72 shots overall. Although Bay only won two triples against Ramsgate, a fine victory by Jackie Caruth, Mary Watson and John Toms saw Bay home by 13 shots overall. Rink honours were split in the game with Windmill but the visitors won by six shots overall. Bay overcame Civil Service by 19 shots in a mixed match after winning six of the eight triples played. Whitstable lost just one of the six rinks played in their Forest of Blean League clash at Boughton and took six of the eight available points with a 24shot win.
