Join Rob to raise Hellfire cash

-

Former British and Irish Lions rugby legend Rob Andrew, who made more than 70 appearances for England, is hosting his own charity golf day at Canterbury next month. The event takes place on Friday, August 4, and Andrew, now 54, will be helping to raise funds for the Canterbury Hellfire wheelchair rugby team. When injury brought an end to his career as a player, Andrew became director of Newcastle Falcons before becoming the RFU’S first director of elite rugby. In 2016 he became chief executive of Sussex County Cricket Club, returning to a sport in which he earned a blue at Cambridge and played for Yorkshire 2nd XI. He has a first-class century to his name and can also pride himself on claiming the wicket of former England captain Mike Atherton for a duck. As well as playing in the golf tournament, Andrew will be taking part in a question and answer session, reflecting on his rugby career and the Lions’ tour of New Zealand and talking cricket. The day gets underway at 9am and will finish in time for cricket enthusiasts to attend Kent’s home T20 match against Sussex at Canterbury. Places are still available for the golf day at a cost of £ 250 for a team of four or £180 for Canterbury members. Further details are available from Canterbury Golf Club on 01227 453532 or by emailing gm@ canterburygolfclub.co.uk
