The long-awaited opening of a seven-day bank in Canterbury will create 25 new jobs, it emerged this week.

Metro Bank is nearing completion on construction work at the former C&H store on the corner of St George’s Street and Rose Lane.

Unlike other high street banks, it will open every weekday from 8am to 8pm, as well as from 8am to 6pm on Saturdays and 11am to 5pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

Accounts can be opened instantly and lost or stolen cards printed on the spot.

The new branch will also offer free coin-counting machines and have 2,300 safe deposit boxes for customers to store valuables.

Its managing director of retail banking, Iain Kirkpatrick, said: “We’re delighted to be opening a branch in the historic city of Canterbury.

“Making banking simple and convenient is a real priority for us and we’re thrilled to bring res- idents a bank that puts customers at the heart of everything it does.

“Our branches provide something new and different to the local community and it’s essential that we continue to provide the services that customers want and need.

“This means creating around 25 new careers, taking part in local activities and hosting free networking events for the whole community.

“Canterbury is an extraordinary city that we’re excited to be a part of and we’ll be celebrating our new store with two days of grand opening festivities later this year.”

As well as a high street presence, Metro also offers online banking, via its mobile app and through its contact centres.

It has yet to reveal an official opening date.
