Holders Smugglers B were knocked out of the Henry Court Cup in the quarterfinals after going down 2-1 to the Artichoke A in the Canterbury & District League. Choke took the opening leg 34-28 with Tom Hopkins hitting 18 and Steve Coker replying with 17 while Chris Howard wrapped-up the second leg with 10 not out for the Herne side. Spencer Snow hit the majority of the Choke’s 68 runs in the final two legs with an impressive 23 and 18 from the No.8 spot while team-mate Kevin Cooper hit five traps for the Choke but was outdone by Smugglers Tom Hibbert who hit six. Lee Chapman’s 30 runs for the Golden Lion C were not enough as Dover Castle’s Barry Fitzgerald helped himself to five traps to steer his side to a 2-0 triumph. Kestrels moved into the semis with a 2-1 win over Faversham Town FC. Steve Bassett hit 31 runs out of the Kestrels’ third leg total of 56, while team-mate Anthony Burden hit 19 and trapped out six opponents. In reply, Mark Medley hit 28 and Steve Coleman 26 and both players took four traps each for Town. Ben Foster’s 41 runs and Steven Hicks’ four traps were sufficient for the Gentil Knyght C to see off the Artichoke B 2-1. Jamie Challis put in a good shift for the Choke with 45 runs and two traps. In the Henry Court Plate first round, last year’s winners Two Brothers moved into the quarter-finals with a 2-0 away win at the Evenhill Crusaders B. In an all-premiership clash, the Dove Inn B beat Golden Lion A 2-0. The Lion’s Bruce Aitken put up a fight, taking five traps, while the Dove had Don Quinnell, Mick Quinnell and Roger Brooker take three traps each. Dove Inn A, Two Brewers A and Alma A all progressed with 2-0 home victories. Golden Lion B saw off Castle A 2-1 after good bowling performances from Tony Gough, with four traps, and James Clements, Stuart Capper and Kirsten Attwell who claimed three each. The Freewheel and Shipwright Arms completed the last eight after 2-0 away wins at the White Horse and Compasses. The Singles competition is on Sunday at the Red Lion, Dunkirk, from 1pm.
