GOLDEN LION TAKE TITLE EARLY WITH VICTORY OVER GOLDEN OLDIES

Golden Lion ladies secured the Canterbury & District Ladies’ Bat & Trap League title with two games to play after a 2-0 win against Golden Oldies. Amanda Parsons scored 24 runs in the first leg for the winners and team-mate Lesley Eames scored 20 in the second, while Kerry Stirling and Jan Gardener took three traps each for the Oldies. Ann Dale scored 25 runs in the first leg to help Castle B to a 2-0 win against Herne Bay Catholic Club, despite Jenny Rockhill taking four traps for the losers. Three traps from Julie Heslop could not prevent Ratling Club being beaten 2-1 at Home against Haywain, with Stella Jolliff and Tina Thompson taking three traps each for the winners. In Division 2, Castle A held on to the leaders’ spot despite losing 2-0 to bottom-of -the-table Artichoke. Choke’s last batter Tracy Mackenzie held her nerve to take both legs for the team and the much-needed points. Ye Olde Beverlie beat second-placed Golden Lionesses 2-0, while Red Lion A also enjoyed a comfortabl­e 2-0 win against Kings Head A, who only managed to field four players. In the Cackett Cup final, Red Lion B defeated Golden Lion Ladies 2-1. Red Lion took the first leg after bowling Golden Lion all out for five but Lion came back to take the second leg with Lesley Eames scoring 25 runs. Anne Ellis hit 20 runs to help Red Lion to take the third leg and the trophy. Top-trappers of the evening were Pauline Davis and Alison Tolson from Red Lion B who took four traps each, closely followed by team-mate Mandy Taylor and Golden Lions captain Traci Aitken, who took three each.
