Clements bags four in victory

-

Whitstable 2nds made it a good day for the club beating fellow strugglers Folkestone 2nds by 29 runs in the Kent League 2nd XI Premier Division. Openers Richard Legg (58) and Luke Blake (44) provided the perfect platform, with Jonty Barnes (32) and Julian Thompson (33) continuing the good work as the visitors reached 219. Thompson (2-27 in 10 overs) then removed both home openers cheaply and despite some solid middle order batting, the hosts were dismissed for 190, with Stuart Clements taking 4-27 in 9.3 overs. Whitstable are now third bottom seven points ahead of Folkestone with Dartford cut adrift at the foot of the table. Third-bottom Canterbury chased down a target of 248 to beat Bromley 2nds by two wickets in 2nd XI Division 1. A second-wicket stand of 85 between Josh Kirk (84 not out from 110 balls with five fours) and Ben Line (71 from 72 balls with 10 fours and six) gave them a good footing but they were 1908 before Max Harris (23 not out) joined Kirk to see them home. The pair’s unbroken stand was worth 59, with victory being achieved with seven balls remaining. Division 3 champions St Lawrence 2nds raced to a sevenwicket win over Rainham 2nds, dismissing their hosts for 76 in 43.3 overs. Luke Rumbelow took 4-20 in 12.3 overs with Zac Reimer claiming 2-20 in 11, Tom Copestake 2-19 in nine and Alex Day 2-10 in nine. Saints lost three wickets relatively quickly in reply before Ruaridh Macleod (33 not out) and James Fowle (25 nt out) saw them home inside 12.1 overs. With only two rounds to go Saints are 73 points clear of nearest rivals Sidcup.
