John King, Sue Close and Tony Dob­son joined forces to win Can­ter­bury BC’S Dick­ens Tro­phy – the only one of 16 teams to win all three of their games.

Alan Corn­foot won through in the pre­lim­i­nary round of the Na­tional Se­nior Sin­gles, com­ing from 11-5 down to level at 17-17 be­fore win­ning 21-17.

How­ever, he went down 21-11 in the next round.

In the Na­tional Pairs, Corn­foot joined Steve Wells to take on the side from Not­ting­hamshire and de­spite a come­back from 10 shots down, they missed out on the fi­nal end with a mea­sure go­ing against them as they lost 21-20.

Can­ter­bury’s men won by 20 shots against Min­ster. Can­ter­bury 108 Min­ster 88 Barry Jor­dan, Bob Keen, Maj Lloyd won 21-18; Mike Doyle, Roger Gowan, Bernard Wood­hams lost 21-8; Keith Wright, Dave Jenk­ins, Ian Bur­ton won 22-9; John Smith, Alan Bur­nap, Dick Mort­ley won 15-14; Si­mon Willis, Alan Marsh, Bill Hud­son won 22-8; Don Parry, Dave Rickard, Dave Swann won 20-18.

Can­ter­bury en­joyed an­other 38-shot win against Deal. Can­ter­bury 99 Deal 61 Peter Fawcett, Rus­sell Feast, Bill Hill­man won 20-9; John Smith, Keith Wright, Bernard Wood­hams drew 15-15; Alan Pack, Mike Doyle, Dave Charl­ton lost 20-18; Tom Nel­son, Brian Wheeler, Ian Bur­ton won 24-5; An­drew Bur­ton, Dave Rickard, Bryan Ni­chol­son won 22-12.

Can­ter­bury ladies lost two of the three rinks against Kearsney but re­turned a draw. Faver­sham ladies de­feated Boughton by 19 shots. The pre­vi­ous day, vis­it­ing Deal won by 13 shots at Whit­stable af­ter win­ning four of the six rinks.
