Pacy subs help Bay find a way past Lilywhites

Bostik South

-

Herne Bay ended their Salters Lane hoodoo with a superb performance and a 3- 0 win to inflict a third straight defeat on hosts Faversham on Monday.

Town began the brighter but Bay then took charge and only four fine saves from Town keeper Simon Overland – two of them from Alex MulrooneySkinner efforts – kept the deadlock intact at the break.

Ryan Cheek’s intervention managed to keep it goalless in the opening seconds of the second half and then Renford Tenyue headed off the line from Jono Richardson’s header from the resultant corner.

It was the introduction of Jake Embery and Nassim Dukali in a four-minute span just after the hour that proved to be the turning point as their pace proved too much for the tiring Town defence.

The pair started the move for the opening goal on 69 minutes as Dukali flicked the ball to Embery who raced down the line before finding Danny Leonard whose shot cannoned off Matt Bourne’s shin and looped over Overland BOSTIK SOUTH

Bay piled on the pressure and 10 minutes later Dukali doubled the lead when he collected Embery’s low cross after Town failed to clear and raced into the box to side-foot past Overland.

Dukali wrapped up a fine 25-minute cameo performance with the best goal in the dying seconds after he was sent clear down the left by Jack Steveton before cutting inside two defenders, rounding a third and firing inside the post from outside the box.

Bay keeper Ben Hunter was not troubled until stoppagetime when he produced a fine save to keep out a deflected free-kick from former Bay man Jordan Casey.

Bay had registered their first win of the Bostik South campaign on Saturday as they beat Chipstead 3-1 at Winch’s Field.

Embery added the gloss with a third in stoppage-time, although Keanu Williams had the final say a minute later with a consolation for the visitors.

Town had lost by the odd goal in seven at Walton Casuals on Saturday.

Sam Bewick headed Josh Kelly’s early shot off the line before Liam King fired the visitors ahead at the other end on 11 minutes after a searching ball from George Monger.

Monger conceded a free-kick at the other end moments later, however, and Daryl Coleman curled into the top corner to level.

A controversial corner awarded to Casuals on the half-hour proved a turning point as Tenyue was adjudged to have handled on the line from the subsequent set-piece, with the Town man shown a straight red card and Roscoe D’sane firing home the penalty.

It was 3-1 seven minutes later as Joe Hicks was given room to wriggle free in the box and shoot past Overland.

Overland kept the hosts at bay after the break before a Monger corner was handled in the box allowing Bewick to fire home the penalty on 73 minutes.

Town continued the comeback with 11 minutes left on the clock as Jordan Casey flicked on an Overland clearance over the keeper and under the bar.

The joy was shortlived, however, as Casuals piled forward and Overland saved a Sean Mccornack shot, only for the ball to be returned to the middle for Lartley Sarpong to turn in less than 60 seconds after Town had levelled.
