Fundraisers present hospital with £50k scanner
A £50,000 ultrasound machine has been donated to Kent and Canterbury Hospital thanks to the Prostate Cancer Support Association Kent (PCSA Kent).
It has been funded through donations from Masonic lodges, Rotary and Lions clubs and golf clubs, and representatives from these groups also attended the presentation.
Graham Edwards, of PCSA Kent, said: “We’ve waited for this machine for a long time and we’re delighted to see it installed.”
He founded PCSA Kent in 2006 and, together with private donations and superstore collections by members, he has raised more than £300,000.
The charity has been able to buy more than 20 portable multi-scanners and eight urine-flow machines for hospitals throughout Kent as well as a portable biopsy machine for the QEQM in Margate costing £43,000.
Macmillan radiographer Nick Luscombe said: “The ultrasound machine and probe provided will allow the marker insertion to take place within the oncology department at Canterbury.
“More than half of east Kent patients have to travel to Maidstone.
“This will allow all east Kent patients to have the procedure done at Canterbury.”
The equipment was presented to oncologist Dr Albert Edwards and radiography services manager Christine Richards by Mr Edwards.
