Action-packed training in field
Army cadets from Canterbury, Herne Bay and Faversham were among 350 young people from across the county taking part in a two-week actionpacked annual camp.
Organised by the Kent Army Cadet Force and held under the banner ‘Inspire to Achieve’, the teenagers spent nights living out in the field, learning military tactics and fieldcraft in mock ambush situations.
Other training included first aid, obstacle courses, competition shooting and drill and turnout – as well as many other activities on the Army Cadet Force syllabus – allowing cadets to earn star levels and gain promotions.
They also witnessed a display and demonstration from the 579 Field Squadron of the Royal Engineers.
The county-wide camp was held near Folkestone and other highlights included raft building, archery, climbing and days trips to the Imperial War Museum, Chelsea pensioners and Dover Castle.
Colonel Chris Gilbert, Commandant of Kent Army Cadet Force Col Chris Gilbert said: “Annual camp gives our young people the opportunity to go away with the other members of the ACF from all over the county, often forging new friendships and making memories that will last a lifetime.
“The ACF develops young people to be better citizens and also allows for structured training leading towards progression within the organisation and qualifications that are valued in the workplace.
“We really do provide young people with a springboard to go onto better things and contribute to society.”
