There was plenty of success for Tony Petts at Whitstable BC’S Finals Weekend.
Petts overcame Norman Toby 21-10 to be crowned men’s champion, also saw-off Phil Gardiner 35-29 to win the men’s yardstick and enjoyed an 80-70 success over Norman Tilley to claim the 10-point title.
He added the handicap crown after a 22-19 victory against Malcolm Scott and joined forces with Martin Hakes to win the men’s pairs 34-17 against Jim Carey and R Mcdonald.
Daphne Ellinor was also a multiple winner after beating Joan Davey 22-16 to claim the ladies championship and also winning the Two-wood 15-12 over Edna Hall.
Rosemary Field edged Maggie Porter 21-18 to win the Bradfield while the pair teamed-up along with G Coates to win the Mixed Triples final 22-12 against Ellinor, N Toby and M Scott.
Field also overcame Barbara Mcgillicuddy 78-72 to win the 10-Point title and 21-18 in the Handicap competition but fortunes were reversed as Mcgillicuddy won the yardstick final against Field.
Field and Ellinor won 22-14 against Mcgillicuddy and Sue Quilter in the Pairs final while Mcgillicuddy lost out 18-9 to Rita Hall in the Winnie Weedon.
The Men’s Two-wood was won by Brian Gentle 14-13 against David Newell while Trevor Epps won the Bradfield 23-10 against Paul Browning and Chris Twyman won 21-12 to win the Valler against Trevor Hall.
Whitstable split the 17 available points as their Catherine Wheeler League clash at Walpole Bay ended in a draw. Walpole Bay 96 Whitstable 96 Brian Gentle, Paul Browning, Daphne Ellinor won 15-8; Brian Watson, Christopher Twyman, Sylvia Hender won 19-15; Tony Petts, Patricia Vaz, Norman Tilley won 17-15; Garth Coates, Patricia Pout, Martin Hakes lost 21-20; Philip Gardiner, Ronald Vaz, Barbara Mcgillicuddy lost 19-16; Jim Hatton, Linda Lane, Malcolm Scott lost 18-9.
Whitstable lost on just one rink against visiting Chadwell St Mary to win by 50 shots overall. Whitstable 156 Chadwell St Mary 106 Brian Watson, Trevor Epps, Don Minnett, Barbara Mcgillicuddy won 32-10; Sylvia Hender, Edna Hall, John French, Norman Tilley won 26-15; Garth Coates, Nelson Hamilton, Shirley Whitehand, Gareth Porter won 23-12; Norman Toby, Tracey Hamilton, Irene Fairall, Malcolm Scott won 24-15; Jim Ratcliffe, Dino Fella, Jean Reid, Gerald Hender won 20-13; Ray Mcdonald, Brian Batchelor, Stan Robinson, June Ratcliffe drew 21-21; Alan Reid, Peggy Wray, Rita Hall lost 20-10.
Whitstable beat visiting Bexley Vets by 27 shots last Thursday, winning four of the seven rinks.
