The biggest field of the year so far turned out for the ladies’ charity Stableford. Millie Tucker, in her second ladies’ competitio­n, romped home with 41 points, beating captain Maureen Davison into second place with 39 and Mel Bashford into third with 38 points. There was an even stronger turnout for President’s Day hosted by current president John Clarke and his wife Sue. Judy Butcher took the honours with 39 points, Mia Waddingham was second with 38 and Janet Henley third with 37 (on countback from lady captain Maureen Davison). John Clarke also gave out prizes for the best front nine. Helen Foad won the best front nine with 21 points and best back nine went to Sue Maflin with 19. Nearest the pin on the sixth was Louise Tucker and on the 15th was Sue Maflin. Joyce Jaynes had a fine round in the monthly medal. Her net 65 saw her win by some margin. Fran Price was second in Division 2 on countback from Sheila Wyles, both with net 72. Division 1 winner with a net 68 was Sharon Mills from Ann Milner net 71 and Maz Garlinge net 73. Inge Parry won the putting competitio­n that ran alongside the medal with the lowest total to date this year of 27 putts. The Texas Scramble saw two teams tied for top spot, both comprising players with handicaps of 22, 24 and 28. Both scored 38 on both front and back nines. Winners on countback over the last six holes, by a mere one shot, were Sue Maflin, Margaret Barker and Joyce Jaynes, pushing Janet Henley, Sue Goodall and Val Brown into second. The Autumn Greensomes was won with 42 points by Sue Goodall and Helen Foad. Second was decided by countback with two pairs finishing on 38, Mel Bashford and Sally Lawson just edged it. The front nine went to Maz Garlinge and Jacky Barker and back nine to Louise Tucker and Madge Harris, both pairs with 20 points. The Past Captain’s Trophy was won by Pat Bensted with 26 points, one ahead of Mel Bashford on 25. He was presented with the trophy and a gift by current lady captain Maureen Davison. Past captain Janet Drewett donated prizes for the best front and back nine – winners were Mel Bashford with 15 points and Molly Broadbent 17 points, respective­ly. The Mixed Greensomes was won by Fran and Eynon Price with 46 points, Sheila and Mick Wyles were second with 41 points. The best front nine went to Sally Lawson and Jack Dale 24 points and back nine to Molly and Barry Broadbent, 25 points.
