Glass leads way in final-day win

Kent League

-

Canterbury were left to wonder what might have been as they finished 28 points adrift of promotion despite winning their final game of the Shepherd Neame Kent League, Division 1 season.

At home to Bromley Common, who were already assured of second spot and the final promotion place, the city club won the toss before posting 271-9 with Kris Glass leading the scoring with 62 and Justin Macvicar adding 49 and Max Campbell 40.

Campbell and Macvicar then claimed three scalps each and Adarsh Shah picked up 2-23 as Common were dismissed for 208 with 10 overs to spare.

Tanzeela Rahmen scored a superb unbeaten century but could not help Whitstable avoid defeat in their Division 1 swansong at champions Bickley Park.

After winning the toss, the hosts piled on the runs, amassing 313-8 despite Jake Guinan taking 4-56 and Todd Jordan 3- 67 for the visitors, already destined to finish adrift at the bottom.

Opener Rahmen then shared 69 for the first wicket of the reply with Luke Blake before providing almost single-handed resistance, finishing on a defiant 100 not out from 144 balls with his side on 184-7.

Eight players departed for single figures as Faversham were skittled for just 69 as they went down by 103 runs at Blackheath A in Division 5.

Jamie Rigden took 3-33 as the hosts posted 172-5 from 45 overs but the 15 not out posted by Akash Milward-bose was as good as it got in a reply which lasted just 25 overs. Jonty Barnes hit 72 but Whitstable 2nds fell short in their final game of the 2nd XI Premier Division season.

They won the toss at champions Tunbridge Wells 2nds but the hosts cruised to 282- 4 from their 50 overs.

Barnes hit 10 fours before he was run out in reply but George O’neill was the only other man past 30 as the visitors closed on 223- 6.

Canterbury 2nds finished a place above the relegation zone in Division 1 after a seven-wicket defeat at Bromley Common 2nds.

Opener Jamie Mcvittie carried his bat for an unbeaten 40 as the city club were bowled out for 155 in the 43rd over.

Seven of the 115 balls he faced were hit for four while Barnaby Blackwell was out handled ball after a breezy 24.

A lightning opening stand of 118 set the hosts on their way to secure victory inside 20 overs.

Runanway Division 3 champions St Lawrence & Highland Court 2nds finished in style with a 10-wicket demolition of Minster 2nds. Luke Rumbelow (4-28) helped dismiss Minster for just 111 in 36 overs. Ruaridh Macleod then cut loose from the start, hitting an unbeaten 90 as the hosts blazed their way to victory in just 19.3 overs. Captain Paul Reynolds finished 21 not out.
