Down miss out on top spot

Kent Village League

-

Harbledown had to settle for runners-up spot in the Kent Village League after losing at Littlebourne on the final day of the Division 1 season on Sunday. The visitors posted 223-5 as Jago Pearson (61) top scored but despite Richard Heywood’s 4- 48 haul with the ball, Littlebourne reached their target with four wickets and 21 balls in hand. It meant just a third defeat of the season on Down and it was Leeds & Broomfield who finished as champions by just two points after they beat Egerton. Selling were skittled for just 89 by visiting Elham Valley, who won by 66 runs in the same division, while Stone in Oxney beat Ash by five wickets. Jake Smith hit 61 in Ash’s 173-9 but Jamie Drew’s 55 helped the hosts to victory. Wingham were thrashed by Wye who managed to stay up ahead of Woodchurch, courtesy of a superior run-rate. Justin Macvicar took 5-17 as the visitors were ousted for just 89, with Wye then winning by six wickets. Street End finished bottom and lost their final game by 36 runs against Sheldwich. James Creed cracked 94 as the visitors posted 220-7 and despite Dan Dolman’s 70 in reply, End were dismissed for 184. Tom Barton hit 63 and Joe Mitchell scored 78 for Chestfield as they sealed the Division 5 title by a single point. The duo helped the hosts post 234 and they then restricted visiting Stockbury to just 187-9 in reply. Harbledown 2nds had to settle for second, a point behind,
