Bay produce stunning display

Herne Bay produced a stunning display to beat leaders and previously unbeaten Walton Casuals 3-1 in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday. Bay were on the back foot for the opening 15 minutes as Casuals dominated and they wasted two good chances through Roscoe D’sane and Daryl Coleman. Casuals keeper Denzel Gerrar managed to grab the ball at the feet of Junior Aikhionbare just after the half hour but five minutes later Aikhionbare was not to be denied as he fired in after a good run from Bradley Schafer, giving the stopper no chance. Ben Hunter saved from D’sane at the other end while Gerrar kept out a fine effort from Schafer. Bay started the second half looking the better side with Tom Carlton, Aikhionbare and Alex Mulrooney-skinner (pictured) all going close. On 67 minutes, Jono Richardson was adjudged to have fouled Josh Kelly in the box allowing D’sane to level from the spot. Nassim Dukali came off the bench to cause his former club real problems and it did not take long before Bay restored their lead when a Connor Wilkins cross was fired in by MulrooneySkinner. With two minutes to go, D’sane had a good chance to level but Hunter raced out and saved superbly and a minute later the tie was secured. Dukali raced down the left flank, cut inside a defender and fired a stunning volley wide of Gerrar.

Carlton’s strike 12 minutes from time proved Bay’s only consolation as a muchchanged side finished on the wrong end of a 10-1 hammering in a League Cup first round tie at a strong Tonbridge Angels on Tuesday night. They avoided a club record defeat – which remains 11- 0 against the 7th Dragon Guards, more than a century ago – but conceded five in both halves at Longmead. Dan Thompson scored twice either side of Tom Beere’s penalty, with George Beavan and Alex Akrofi adding two more before halftime. Akrofi made it six, five minutes after the restart, with Joe Turner (70 mins) scoring No.7. Carlton pulled one back, before Nathan Elder (75) and Andre Mccollin (81 and 90) struck again before the end.
