Gymnasts’ golden return
Gymnastics
City of Canterbury Rhythmic Gymnastics Club are celebrating a host of good performances at the British Championships in Liverpool.
The club had six elite individuals competing and three elite groups and it was the first time competing at such a prestigious event for several of the Canterbury gynnasts.
However, this did nothing to faze them and the young espoir group achieved bronze with their hoop routine – misssing out on gold due to a technicality – while the junior group won gold for a sensational rope routine.
Canterbury submitted a senior group to compete at the championships for the first time and they impressed, coming third with a mixed ball and rope routine.
In the individual competition, Lexie Morrall won gold for her hoop routine and took silver overall, with Ela Deren fifth in her age group. Team-mate May Jun Ho continued on from her English Championships success by scooping gold for a flawless ball routine as well as taking bronze in the overall competition.
Moving up the age categories, 15-year-old Eve Baker-roberts won gold for her ribbon routine and silver for her ball, clubs and hoop routines, finishing second overall.
Senior gymnasts Emily Woodruff and Jael Gore both reached finals with Woodruff securing fifth position in hoop and Gore fifth with her ribbon routine.
The club are offering free taster sessions for rhythmic gymnastics. Call 07908 036658 or visit www.facebook. com/city of Canterbury Rhythmicgymnasticsclub.
