Cantwell: Let’s focus only on us
Canterbury head into unknown territory on Saturday when they chase a third consecutive win in National League 2 South.
After victories against Tonbridge Juddians and Broadstreet, they visit newly-promoted Old Redcliffians on the outskirts of Bristol.
The home side are bottom of the table having lost all three games so far but Canterbury captain Max Cantwell isn’t reading too much into that.
He said: “It’s another team we don’t know a great deal about, so we can’t go in there thinking we can just turn up and get a win.
“Who knows what they’re like at home? They’ve only played one game at home so far so it might just have been a slip-up, you can’t presume these things.
“If we don’t know much about them, we have to focus on ourselves. We work on what we need to do better and if we do that, we don’t have to think about them so much.
“If all the time we’re thinking about how they play, what their attacking structure is, what they do, it takes away from our game.”
Canterbury beat Broadstreet 41-7 on Saturday and Cantwell felt it was their best performance of the season so far.
He said: “The main talking point for Saturday was positivity. That’s where we progressed so much from the week before.
“We were positive for 80 minutes whereas (against TJS) we only did it for the first half. It was a massive improvement from all the boys. In the first five minutes we conceded a few penalties and there was a try but we didn’t panic. We got into our patterns and I thought we did quite well.
“We saw some improvement from the first game to the second but it wasn’t a complete package.
“It wasn’t a perfect game (against Broadstreet) but a big improvement on the week before.”
