Drama of Becket’s life in fitting venue
Following sell-out performances at Conquest House and the Canterbury Festival, the theatrical production of Thomas Becket’s life is coming to a new venue in the city.
Starting on Saturday, November 25, audiences are invited to immerse themselves in This Turbulent Priest at one of the city’s most historic buildings – the Eastbridge Hospital of St Thomas the Martyr.
It is a fitting venue for the production, as it was originally built to provide hospitality for pilgrims visiting the tomb of St Thomas Becket.
Based on contemporary sources, This Turbulent Priest tells the dramatic story of Becket’s rise and brutal murder in an engaging twoman show.
Film, television and theatre actor Paul Kavanagh and award-winning theatre director and actor Robert Mccrea bring to life the conflict between Thomas Becket and King Henry II, resulting in the devastating death of Canterbury’s renowned saint.
This Turbulent Priest, written by Jane Hardy and Michael Conathan of Bad Husky Productions, is being brought to life in an innovative partnership with the Board of Canterbury Cathedral and Bad Husky Productions, whose mission is to bring accurate history to life through theatre.
It will take be performed on subsequent Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until December 29 at 1.30pm and 3pm.
Tickets (£8 adults, £5 concessions) will be available on the door on a first come, first served basis.
