Wounded Bay give right response
Bostik South
Herne Bay bounced back from a heavy defeat last time out with an impressive win of their own.
Just a week after losing 8-1 to league leaders Lewes in Bostik South, Bay roared back with a 4-1 victory over basement side Shoreham.
Bay had to overcome a tough opening period, taking the lead midway through the first half against the run of play with a goal from Alexander Mulrooney-skinner.
He raced onto a ball through from Bradley Schafer before netting into the bottom corner.
Shoreham had the chance to level from the penalty spot when George Gaskin was fouled, but he fired his spot-kick wide.
Gaskin’s luck was definitely out, lobbing a shot onto the bar and missing with his follow-up.
Shoreham did eventually level, just before the hour mark, with Sean Roddy’s free-kick beating keeper Ben Hunter.
That goal energised Bay, who restored their lead with a 75thminute penalty awarded after Junior Aikhionbare had his shirt pulled and converted by Nassim Dukali.
Tom Carlton made it 3-1 with 11 minutes left and when Bay dispatched another penalty with five minutes remaining it was game over. Aikhionbare had been fouled, earning Max Whitehead his second yellow, and Dukali shot home.
Bay face a bigger test this weekend with a trip to Guernsey.
Faversham return to action this Saturday after they were without a fixture last weekend. They will be hoping to maintain their improving form at home to Horsham as they look to make it three wins in a row.
