A popular teenager who lost his fight for life at the weekend, six weeks after a devastating car crash, has been described as “one of a kind”.

Canterbury College student Jack Mosley suffered serious head injuries after hitting a tree on the Old Thanet Way on September 23.

The 19-year-old, of Charnwood Road, Herne Bay, had been in the critical care unit at King’s College Hospital in London ever since, with his family holding vigil at his bedside until his death.

Grieving friends staged a balloon release in his memory on Sunday night and paid emotional tributes to Jack, with many celebrating his “great sense of humour” and constant smile.

Lucy Mcleod, principal of Canterbury College, also expressed her shock and sadness at his tragic death.

She said: “He was a popular student at the college, always bright and with a smile on his face, and there’s no doubt he was well liked by all.

“He had been with us for some time, studying public services when he joined the college in 2015, before progressing on to a motor vehicle qualification.

“He was a committed student who always worked hard and dedicated himself to his studies, and having achieved a range of qualifications with us, there’s no doubt Jack was set to have a bright future.

“We’re all deeply saddened by this tragedy, and our whole college community are thinking of Jack’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

A Facebook page has been set up by Jack’s friends for peo- ple to post photos and memories of the former Herne Bay High Pupil.

Emma Berry wrote: “Jack, you were one of a kind. You had an amazing spirit and were one of the most unforgettable pupils I ever taught.

“I think I learned so much from you too. Mostly about not always believing the excuses I was given – I think you helped me get over a lot of my gullibility!

“I’m so incredibly sad this has happened to you, it doesn’t seem real. I hope you’re at rest now and still laughing.”

Beth Martin added: “Such a great guy with a big heart and amazing sense of humour.

“Always had a smile on your face and never failed to be a wind up. Gone but never forgotten Jack.”

Emily Sharkey wrote: “Heartbroken is an understatement. You were the kindest person I’d ever met and you never failed to put a smile on everyone’s face. I hope you’re still smiling Jack Mosley. I‘ll never forget you and all the memories we have.”

A spokesman for Herne Bay High School described Jack as a popular student with an infectious smile.

The spokesman said: “He was always the life and soul of the mentor group every morning and his cheeky, funny nature always got everyone laughing. He was also very loyal and caring in his close relationships. His smile was infectious and he made everyone around him feel wel come with his loving nature.

“We will always remember him with fondness and he will be sadly missed by so many. Our hearts go out to his family at this terribly sad time.”

After the crash, police issued an appeal to find anyone who saw Jack’s blue Vauxhall Corsa leave the road as it headed from Chestfield towards Greenhill. Witnesses were urged to call the serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538, quoting MS/213/17.
