Town have the final say

Bostik South MONUMENT STAY TOP OF THE PILE

-

There was early and late drama at Woodstock Park on Tuesday night as Faversham completed an impressive league double over local rivals Sittingbourne.

The Lilywhites made the short trip having beaten Bourne in the reverse fixture in September but they conceded a penalty inside the first five minutes.

Ollie Lee handled a Kane Rowland cross but Rowland’s spot-kick was kept out by Town goalkeeper Simon Overland.

Just before half-time, Faversham took the lead. Matt Bourne got a head to Danny Walder’s corner and Luke Griffiths, on the turn, volleyed high into the net.

It looked like two points had slipped away when Kane Phillip drew Sittingbourne level two minutes before the end of the game.

But there was still one final twist as Griffiths forced a right-wing corner home at the near post to spark wild celebrations by the men in yellow.

The win lifted Town one place to 19th after they’d lost 2-1 at home to Horsham on Saturday. Lee fired them in front on 19 minutes but George Landais had the visitors level just before the break and Liam Mcdevitt won it for Horsham on 68 minutes.

It was also a mixed week for Herne Bay, who won 4-2 at Guernsey on Saturday but lost 3-2 at home to Thamesmead on Tuesday night.

Bay found themselves 2- 0 down inside 13 minutes after Paul Vines scored a seventh-minute penalty before Harvey Brand made things doubly difficult.

Connor Cox pulled a goal back but BOSTIK SOUTH

Danny Rumbol netted in the 69th minute but John Embery and Jermaine Darlington’s side were unable to salvage a draw.

It had been a happy flight home from the Channel Islands on Saturday after two goals from Jono Richardson helped see off Guernsey.

Richardson scored from two Tom Carlton corners either side of a Dave Rihoy strike for the home side.

Carlton provided a third assist for Josh Wisson and although Ross Allen scored from the penalty spot for the Green Lions, the points were heading back to the mainland when Jake Embery broke away to make it 4-2 in stoppage-time.
