The weekend games in the Canterbury & District League saw some strong competition as teams separated by just a few points in the tables went head-to-head.

Canterbury Back To’s just got the better of Wahl, 41-36 in Division 2.

The first quarter was even, with neither team pushing hard for the victory. A few choice passes from Canterbury Back To’s saw them inch ahead in the last few minutes but Wahl still had plenty to play for.

An exciting third quarter saw the score swaying back and forth as both teams went for the win.

Wahl’s attacking players created plenty of opportunities to level but some fantastic defence inside the D proved decisive. By the end of the third quarter, Wahl were trailing by just two goals. Back To’s extended their lead in the last quarter – thanks to best attack Grace Castle’s effortless shooting. The win for Back To’s closed the gap between themselves and Wahl to just four points.

In Division 1, Canterbury versus Synergy was another key match.

There was little change of possession from centre pass as both teams quickly chalked up goals in the first 15 minutes.

It wasn’t until the second quarter that Canterbury stepped up their defensive play to turn around a handful of balls, giving them the advantage. Play carried on steadily for the rest of the game and with no mistakes from Canterbury, Synergy just couldn’t catch up.

The final result of 71-54 saw Synergy lose within half, giving them one point for their efforts.

Canterbury took maximum points, extending the gap between their opponents in the table to four points.

Pilgrims are still in pole position in Division 1 following their win.

They are followed closely by Canterbury, Synergy and Blackjacks – all within five points of each other.

In Division 2, GG Fitness haven’t budged from their No.1 spot – securing their place with a 49-20 against Canterbury Academy White.

Bluebirds are still second, while third has been taken by Alpha who have overtaken Wahl after a 51-10 win over UKC.
