Royals beaten in extra-time

Tankerton FC sprang the biggest surprise in the first round of the Herne Bay & Whitstable Sunday League’s Challenge Cup as they knocked out Premier Division Tankerton Royals. The second division side went through 3-2 after extra time with Ty Holder scoring twice and Matt Dillon the other. Ali Brown and Joe Walker replied for Royals. Unbeaten Division 1 title hopefuls Chislet CW knocked out top flight strugglers Waterfront 5-2 with goals from Mustafa Cakir (2), Jack Waite, Jack Winder and Luke Hedges. James Prior, Jonny Woollard and Ryan Sargeant all scored twice as Division 2 Faversham United beat Division 1’s bottom club Blean 7-3. Courtney Coveney completed their tally. All the other ties went to form although Premier Division Monument PFC were pushed hard by first division side Oare before getting home 3-2. Matt Kelk and Ben Rowley netted for Oare but visitors Monument won thanks to a goal each from Joe Mullan, Callum Alexander and Jordan Girling. Chilham beat Heron Athletic 3-1 with Ben Walsh, Jordan Page and Tom Andrews their scorers and fellow Prem side Chartham won 4-2 away to Bay United, for whom Chris Hollingsbee and Matt Harris netted. First divison leaders Hampton eased past Northgate Rangers 6-1, Adam Wilks grabbing Northgate’s consolation and Wingham were 6-1 winners over Canterbury Toon (Charlie Wallis). Whitstable OB put up a good fight before losing 5-3 to The Elephant and A1 Tyres pipped St Stephen’s 2-1 with goals from Calum Dock and Ashley Tuite. Back in the Premier Division defending champions Rising Sun stretched their lead at the top to 17 points by beating Crusaders 9-0. Stacy Davis hit a hat-trick with Joe Kennett and James Turner both claiming doubles. Tom Parker (penalty) and Ryan Miller were also on the scoresheet.
