Bailey wins team event and individual prize
Golf
Gillian Bailey has enjoyed two victories at Canterbury Golf Club .
Her first came in partnership with Charlotte Launois and Rosemary Cardy as they carded 72 points to triumph in a Team Stableford.
With two from three scores on each hole to count, Bailey, Launois and Cardy won on countback from Fran Fearn, Diane Florence and Margaret Francis.
The wet conditions proved difficult for most ladies in the December Medal but Bailey finished with a net 72, well clear of the rest of the field.
Division 1 winner was Sheila Cairns ( h20) who closed on 76 to win on countback from Joy Flynn (h20). Third place went to Cath Smith (h19) on 77. Twenty-seven handicapper Bailey won Division 2 with Charlotte Launois (h24) next best on 77 and Anne Arnold (h22) third on 82. The nine-hole competition was won by Dorothy Lloyd Hughes with a score of 39. Second, four shots back, was Ann White.
At the ladies’ annual meeting, outgoing captain Marianne Disneur was able to look back at her year in office, thank her committee and welcome Eileen Wagget as lady captain for 2018.
She, in turn, presented Christine Burley with her badge of office as vice-lady captain for the coming year.
Last weekend’s medal saw Lizza Berry (h15) head the field with a net 78.
Second, one behind, was June Edney (h16).
The frozen fairways and unpredictable greens proved challenging for the rest of the competitors.
